Glennville, New York, is the "home" of a nuclear plant... Located one mile underground, its presence is not known to many! A newspaper reporter, Frank, has been tracking it for years with the help of his friend.

An intriguing read from the start, this only gets better as the story progresses. There is a "line in the sand" drawn. Who draws this line?

From the line, this story progresses to an "earthquake" in that region.. It appears that the non-believers" have been left behind. And, a decision is made to head to Rochester, NY.

So very interesting to me so far. Lots going on in this one. Let us learn how the survivors progress in the next book.

This is one of those books where I had to put it down and let my brain process it for a while. Ms. Norton's story is harrowingly brutal sometimes, but also engaging and very readable. Abuse, especially at this level, is hard to watch even third-hand through a narrator. This needs to be read though, and by pretty much everybody. I might double my donations to RAINN and the DOVES Program for women trying to escape abusive situations.

This book is really good. The story line is unique compared to all the books I have read in this genre. The characters are well crafted, complex, and loveable. I found myself so caught up in the story that when I reached the last page I was totally in shock not to mention extremely sad that this journey was over. So you can imagine how pleased I was that it actually was book one in a series.
The book follows several different groups, or pairs, as they adjust to what seems to be the end of the world as they know it. Filled with natural catastrophes one after the other and tragedies throughout, I found it necessary to pause at times so I could wrap my mind around all that was happening. Even though I read a lot, 5-6 books per month, it is rare for me to get as deeply embroiled in a story as I did this one.

Billy Jingo is a great read for anyone who likes stories involving road trips, a murder mystery, intriguing bad guys and a twist at the end that you won't see coming. I really enjoyed reading this, it is my first book by this writer and won't be my last. An interesting combination of a couple of different genre's...there is a feeling of noir, cop drama, murder mystery, and even a little dash of romance. Not at all what I was expecting. The style this author uses reminds me of reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy in that the flow and structure of the writing once you get into it helped to shape the characters with it's directness.

There is a balance here of dark and light....very dark and twisted characters that could have set the book's tone...but the author pulls it off by infusing a good deal of sweetness into some of the other characters. It made the book fun to read and made me want to know more about what would happen next. My favorite character was actually the most twisted one in the book.

I would definitely recommend this book. Once I started to read it, I couldn't put it down.
